Desirability

The desirability of anything depends on a few factors:
1. How useful the object is?
Of course, you will never buy anything that is of no use to you so usability is the number one factor.
2. How much you really want it?
Another important thing is, how much do you want that particular object. For example, there are different kinds of pens available in the market but you might like one better than the other even though it might be more expensive or harder to find.

3. How many other people want it?
The more people that buy a thing, the desirability of it will go up. The general thinking is, if people want it so much, it must be good.

4. Who do you know is using it?
This one is a very unconscious factor, and it is what all advertising is based on. Movie stars and models are brand ambassadors because people buy things because they market it. Silly yes? But then, that’s how it works. Not just celebrities, but also if someone you like uses a product you are likely to use it as well. If someone you don’t like uses something, you will probably think it’s shit without any evaluation of the thing itself.

When I found this subreddit “RandomActsOfPizza” I found it quite interesting that people are posting requests for pizza and others are actually responding to them. It is not only brilliant, it has also restored my faith in human beings.

Also, an odd thing that struck me is that people with no money and no food still have access to internet. Finally understanding the tumultuous growth of the internet and its reach.

Singletons

I was reading about programming design patterns when I came across the word “singleton”. Funny thing is, it refers to different things. Not just a design pattern. So here is something about singletons:

Singleton programming: this design pattern seems to exist when only one object of a class is defined. For example, suppose there was a class called vehicles (including all kinds of vehicles) and you create only a car to do all kinds of work. From transporting people from one place to another, to carrying goods and doing everything that any vehicle could do. Though this is more wrong as car itself is also a class. Think like, you have a BMW and you use one BMW for all your travels. Throughout your lifespan. Similarly one object is created and used throughout the program run.

I find it highly interesting because all a singleton means is one being capable of doing and handling everything. This is a wrong strategy maybe as is like dictatorship as one has too much power but then you know, it happens.

Singleton (mathematics): A singleton in math is a set with only a single element.

Singleton(lifestyle): Apparently a term coined after Bridget jones diary series as a lifestyle of a single woman in her thirties.

So now, singletons have mixed connotations. But it is basically one thing. A single variable or person. Now singularity is supreme though. Singularly (physics) refers to a point where gravity is infinite such that coordinate systems don’t matter anymore. Theoretically, the center of all black holes are singularities.

These two words are so similar and still singletons sounds like lonely while singularity sounds supreme or maybe it is just me. Anyway, I might be slightly wrong in my explanations. Please go ahead and wiki all this stuff. Singularities in my opinion are highly interesting. Also there is something called technological singularity which is a theoretical emergence of super intelligence by technological means (not really sure what they mean).

The fear

Being a single woman is scary. I think being single is scary. Being alone is scary. Somehow recently I have come to realize the fear of being a single woman. The biggest fear are the men. Men are like predators (or so I have gotten the impression). It doesn’t matter what your status is in society, there are the men who treat women with no respect. Just general courtesy is missing I understand from their behavior. Today morning, I was walking out of my apartment and I noticed this woman walking in front on me. She lives in an apartment on my floor but I don’t know her. I saw this man on the pavement who looked at her with creepy eyes and a odd smile on his face. I felt like violated. I am not a feminist, but I feel that women should not be treated as objects. There are smart, intelligent and successful women in the world. They already suffer from the pains of being a woman (and believe me it is not easy). On top of that, the men in this society do not help the situation at all. Forget about all the general misconceptions, the least that could be done is to stop harassing the women who take a stand and go out in the world.

I hear about women who get raped, molested and harassed. I am always shocked by how pathetic men are. Sometimes I feel is there a way out of this mess? Recently, there was this much publicized rape case in India, where a woman was raped and beaten up by five men in a bus and then thrown out naked. She went through such trauma that she finally passed away fighting for her life. I shudder to even type this out. What kind of world are we creating? Making advances in technology, medicine and arts but somehow basic human values are nowhere to be found. A friend of mine told me you should carry some sort of defense weapon with yourself. I keep thinking as I walk the streets on my own sometimes late at night, that maybe I really should.

Recently I fear for all the women in the world who travel alone every day. I fear because I have come to realize you cannot trust men. It does not matter what nationality, what religion, where you are living. I have a feeling in the hearts of all women is a fear of what could happen to them and this fear has just been born out of instinct that they are women. I would like to hope that someday the men out there would stop being a threat to women. I really hope so.

The title

The reason that I am suddenly writing is because I found myself reading an old post here and because recently a friend said why don’t u write, and I couldn’t answer him. He said I should figure it out, and until I know for sure why I am not writing, there is still hope.

You think you know life when you are in high school, and then it interrupts you and you realize what-the-F you know nothing. Life is like that and it happens the same in college, at work, at home, with kids, with parents, with everything. You cannot figure it out. Life doesn’t come with a title. If i was to think, what my biography should be called, I am sure I would come up with some funky titles: Incomparable/Incomprehensible (yes, i know IN, if you have a problem with that, I don’t care, it is my F-ing biography*) or maybe Inevitable. But, if you think about it these are pretty boring words, so how to I title my life. Okay, let’s run through some of the most famous biographies and look at how other people’s life have been titled: **

1. Goodbye to all that – Robert Graves

(I personally find the title highly amusing, I have not read the wikipedia page but I can assure you that the book is a sarcasm to how superficial and unnecessary pain certain aspects of life can be, a very well thought of title indeed, because it expresses an opinion, that is important)

2. My experiments with truth – Mahatma Gandhi

(Interesting title again, but though I have tried reading this one, I don’t remember much of it, but this book basically is a story of a man and his experience with his honesty which to him was probably the most important thing ***)

3. The diary of a young girl – Anne Frank

(Most educated people have heard of this one, the title is apt, it is a diary of a young girl, really young girl and her experiences with really awful things)

4. The Boss: the many sides of Alex Ferguson – Alex Ferguson

(No idea who this guy is, really 😛 but if are interested, i think I THINK he is some soccer player or football player, and don’t even get me started on how I don’t understand the difference :P, but yes the title of this biography clearly tells us the story of a self obsessed or rather a fully functional human, what’s the difference really? :P)

4. Back from the brink – Paul McGrath

(Definitely a must mentioning title, tells the story of courage and believing (hope maybe? )most definitely if nothing else. and believe me, i would want mine to be called something like this, except I don’t know who is Paul McGrath, but for the reference you can click and find.)

(this is the last one for sure, because I decided not more than 5)

5. First Man: The life of Neil A. Armstrong

(This one I searched for specifically because he recently passed away and he is an important man, in the sense that he opened up some path for the human civilization, he got us new mysteries and after all, all of us beings actually live off the excitement of the unknown, very accurately titled as he was the first man on the moon.  {a tiny note as to why i am not citing this information because I know it since forever that he is the first man on the moon :P, so cant really site an old geography book i guess which i don’t even remember})

SO yes, I am not done talking (DUH). I am never done talking, but that’s a secret. And I have missed writing so much, that this just feels awesome. This piece actually sounds like a friend of mine writes, it is VERY informative or rather descriptive, but my point was, what title would you want your autobiography to read? I mean it is really that difficult to think of it and funnily I just thought of my perfect title, but I won’t tell you that now. It is for later, when you all will read it. Believe me I am certain you will read it or hear about it.)

The title is important and so this post is called the title because really, I couldn’t figure out what to call it. Maybe “Comeback?”, “Return-of-a-warrior” or I don’t know “The-Crazy-Woman-IS-BACK” but I don’t know what to call it, and so I discussed what could possibly be called an analysis of autobiographical titles. If you want, search for more online, you will find many and when you do, send me some interesting ones so that I could analyze them. I have AN IMPORTANT question though, why are football players so obsessed with writing biographies and why do people read them? Like, political leaders I get, inspiration leader I can believe, but what are players preaching/teaching that people want to read it. Just an after thought, but go and think about what you would like your autobiography to be called, and please get back to me on that. I will love to analyze everyone 🙂

* to anyone who is wondering why i am not using the f word, it is because it induces negative emotions in people (according to stephen fry, and come-on who the hell am i to disagree with that genius 😛 )

** i must inform u, i do not know many, so i did indeed use the web for this. so don’t think i’m too smart, oh i am not stupid, i just don’t remember facts: maybe I’m einstein !

*** if u don’t know, Mahatma Gandhi was a follower of truth and non-violence

The Pensieve

The idea of Pensieve as in, the Harry Potter series is quite awesome when you think about it. I wonder if anyone would ever think of actually doing that to the human brain using technology.

I was just thinking like, because all Pensieve does is store memories, and all of us beings have genuine memories in the form of electronic waves or signals sent throughout our brain as neuron impulses. They are all electric signals, so what if we could monitor them, or just store them somewhere, then can we store our memories forever. Also our feelings, it’s an interesting thing to think about.

So yeah, I think we should all give a thought that if it is possible to build a real life pensieve and if we did, how would it work. I would think as well, and get back to you on this. For now, goodnight!

Another day

Another day seems to go past away and I cannot think of anything I have done remarkable or anything worth knowing in the past 24 hours that I have survived in this harsh world. Somehow, this world gets more and more interesting every day. The human perception changes every micronsecond of our worthless existence. We laugh, we cry but we never really understand how every smile and every tear is affecting the way we look at the world. The world we know is not saintly and there isn’t much of a reason to it. Maybe it is because of the selfishness of mankind or the way mankind evolved through ‘survival of the fittest’ but whatever may be the reason, the world is not perfect. I do not say this because of the tonnes of noxious fumes being thrown into the atmosphere every day, or the tumultous amount of non-biodegradable rubbish being created, or the way one human being steps over the dreams of another to fulfill their own life’s destiny. There are many things that I find wrong with this mother Earth of ours but they are all my opinions. Some people might find it perfect and I will not disagree. I think the way the water rises and falls in the oceans is perfect, the human body is perfect, the time of rise and set of sun is perfect. I just think that it is the homo sapiens who are causing the imperfections, we are the one vilyfying the mother nature. Not all individuals contribute to the greatness of civilization, but all the beings do add up to the problems. In one way or another we all are misusing the Earth we love.

What I wonder the most is that even though I have these ideas in my head I cannot change the my lifestyle? I haven’t started recycling, or started saving water, or planted trees, or even saved electricity. I haven’t done anything for this land I live on in my entire existence and still somehow I feel I have the right to tell everyone else to do something about it. I am nothing but a hypocrite. Yet, I feel I am more split into these two people, like each of us are, into the person who likes to live peacefully without worrying about anything in the world and another who knows where we are driving the ship of this Earth. We all have at some point made speeches about environment preservation but barely any of us do anything about it. In schools, kids are taught to recycle but no one reinforces their behavior because at home, they see their parents living their lives without giving a thought about how their actions who effect the environment. The motivation to build good habits is not as essential as the one to keep them. In school, I have learnt that there are many countries where the basic need for clean water is not met but do I save water? No. It is hard to always keep tract of the environment especially because all this while we are so busy being selfish and self-involved. It isn’t a wrong thing to do. Thinking about oneself is good, all we need to do is believe that the environment is a part of ourself and the day we start being selfish about the environment the problems can be solved. I know, the tonnes of waste that already exist cannot be eradicated in a day, the number of vehicles and factories emitting fuels cannot be removed magically from the earth surface but if every day we do something little, something significant, we might be able to save the Earth we love.

All we need to do is that believe that no day is just another day, we can always do something to improve this world. Even though our contribution might seem insignificant to us, the sense of belonging to the planet would exponentially increase if we just become selfish about it for once. Our planet deserves better than being covered in the pile of rubbish the human beings create. The world is awesome and we know it, it’s high time we save it.
